Safety Procedures Know your responsibilities - read you workplace rules & regulations. If you have questions, ask your supervisor or contact EH&S.

For Your Environment Know your environment’s features (the building, room, air, equipment, etc.) and how to protect yourself and other personnel from hazards.
Indoor Air Quality EH&S will help identify conditions that impact health (e.g., mold contamination) or comfort (e.g., nuisance odors, temperature and air circulation) as well as ventilation concerns. Report any unusual odors to EH&S.
Asbestos/Lead Hazards EH&S can advise you of the hazards associated with asbestos and lead and tell you if these hazards are likely in your workplace.
Hazard Reporting Because you are in a position to observe changes in your work environment on a daily basis, you have opportunities to observe new or existing workplace hazards. Report hazards to EH&S via our Service Request Line.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Your work may require you to wear personal protective equipment to prevent exposure a variety of hazards such as excessive noise, chemicals, flying particles and debris. EH&S can evaluate your work and advise you on the use of PPE.
Respiratory Protection EH&S can assist you in identifying and evaluating potential exposures that may require respiratory protection. Those needing respiratory protection can obtain the proper equipment and fit-testing via EH&S.
Special Workplace Hazards Confined spaces, electrical hazards, welding operations, extreme noise, and construction zones, are just some examples of unique hazards. EH&S can help you to identify and control hazards as well as comply with applicable regulations.

Hazardous Materials Chemicals are all around us. You have a right to know what hazards exist and how to protect yourself. EH&S provides a wide range of services to help you identify and work safely with potentially hazardous material.
MSDS Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS's) help identify special hazards of chemicals in the workplace. EH&S can provide copies of MSDS (also available on-line).
Hazardous Waste EH&S provides hazardous waste (chemical and radioactive) disposal services. Biological waste disposal is arranged using an outside contractor. Further information can be found on the safety programs home pages.

Regulation Interpretation and Compliance  The many rules and regulations that apply to workplace safety can seem overwhelming and confusing. If you need assistance, EH&S will interpret the regulations and help you to understand and implement them in your workplace.

Training

Visit the Training page to view current EH&S course offerings. Course descriptions indicate whether or not the course is mandatory and for whom. At a minimum, all persons must attend the General Safety Orientation. Depending upon your job activities, you may need other courses as well. Check with your supervisor.

If your department needs special training or would like to arrange a routine training for the entire department, EH&S will provide a qualified instructor and help to arrange dates and times.

Accident Investigations EH&S can evaluate accident causes and recommend ways to prevent reoccurrence.

Ergonomics EH&S assists you in identifying and eliminating/minimizing ergonomic hazards. We can teach you how to do your own workstation evaluations or provide them for you.

Back Safety Sometimes even simple activities can strain or sprain your back. Taking care of your back is important both to prevent initial injury and reoccurrence. EH&S can advise you how to avoid back injury in your workplace.

Accreditation Compliance If your department or office must maintain accreditation, EH&S may be able to assist.
